The family of Bob & Pat Parker at Shingle Splinters
The Parker Family
They sailed from old England
Out of the bay
To a place called Australia
far far away.
On board was George Parker
A convict they say
Took a piece of cloth
And forgot to pay.
George settled in Botany
Down on the Bay,
Then got into fishing
Without any delay
And raised twelve children,
Now that’s quite a sum...
I don’t know when
All that fishing got done.
His son’s travelled north
To fish in this lake
And heaps of fish
They sure did take.
They worked very hard
And made a penny
Now when I go fishing
I can’t catch any.
They’ve spread far and wide
All over the place,
You quite often see a Parker face.
There sure is a mob
Of them here today
All gadding about
And having their say.
There’s big Nan Irene over here;
I bet she’s bashing someone’s ear,
There are uncles and aunts
All over the place,
Meeting up with old friends
Getting face to face.
There are sisters and brothers and
Dozens of cousins;
Of nans and pops,
There are lots and lots,
But isn’t it great to be here as one;
To join in together
And have lots of fun.
You can meet up with rels
That have drifted apart,
And meet lots of new ones,
And make a new start.
I think everyone is
At the end of their tether;
those who have done a great job,
Putting this together.
They have worked through the night
and also the day,
And did it all without any pay.
Though I know they don’t mind
They’ve had a ball,
Because really I know
They love you all.
When the day is over,
And we’re on our way,
We can reminisce of this
Wonderful day.
We can take a rest,
Sit under a tree
And say
I belong to a great family
